Nurturing the Whole Child
An Anna Julia Cooper School education is about more than academic achievement—it’s about nurturing the whole child. Social-emotional growth, spiritual development, and enrichment opportunities are integral parts of our curriculum. We believe that learning happens both inside and outside the classroom, and through enrichment, we aim to inspire creativity, build confidence, and expose students to new experiences and skills.
Why does enrichment matter? Because it helps students discover talents, develop lifelong passions, and build essential life skills. Whether it’s learning to swim, exploring art, or participating in team sports, these opportunities expand horizons and shape well-rounded individuals ready to lead and thrive.
Spirituality
AJC is rooted in love, with Jesus as our example and guide. Weekly chapel service is a time to reflect, pray for one another, and receive communion in a relaxed and uplifting space. Middle school chapel concludes with lively “shout-outs,” when teachers recognize students for all the ways they’ve shown up as their best selves that week.
Through daily prayer and weekly chapel, we cultivate:
- Faith, hope, and love as the core of all we do
- A caring community that supports each student’s spiritual development
- Acts of kindness, perseverance and grit
