Graduate Support

AJC is committed to help place its graduating 8th graders in the school that is the best fit for them, where they can feel at home and thrive.  Graduates go to a variety of schools, including local independent schools, traditional public high schools, specialty public high schools, and boarding schools.  A number of Richmond area independent schools work closely with our staff and students during the application process, including, in some instances, providing full or nearly full scholarships to students who enroll in their schools.

Key elements of the Graduate Placement Program include:

  • Meeting individually with 8th graders to discuss and determine where they would like to apply and attend high school
  • SSAT prep (for those applying to independent schools)
  • Shadow days at various high schools
  • Helping students with the application process
  • Payment of fees
  • Assisting parents in the online financial aid process
  • Mock interviews
  • Contact and communication with admissions personnel

Once students are enrolled in high school, the Graduate Support Program begins their work with them.  Questions about the application and admission process for high school may be directed to Anthony Burley, Director of Graduate Support, at [email protected].
