This has certainly been a year full of unforeseen obstacles and change for AJC. But despite all the unfortunate circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the school community still experienced many great moments throughout 2020. Take a look at the highlights below...

MLK Day of Service: Shortly after returning from last year's Winter Break, we celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at school with various service projects. It is our tradition to honor this particular holiday by giving back to our community.

AJC Day: On February 21st, we celebrated our namesake's feast day with research projects, written reflections, and a fun afternoon at RockIt Sports.

Transition to Virtual School: Per Governor Northam's mandate, we halted all in-person teaching in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost immediately, our amazing staff created an alternative, virtual plan for finishing out the rest of the semester.

Graduation: We honored our 8th grade class with a virtual graduation ceremony during the morning of June 5th. Several staff members then went out and delivered a diploma and gifts to each graduate.

Summer Program: We welcomed our students back in July for a hybrid summer program. Boys and girls alternated weeks in the building and completed virtual assignments during the weeks they were at home. We are still continuing with this model this current school year.

Groundbreaking Ceremony: On July 22nd, we held a special groundbreaking ceremony for the new gym and middle school campus. A small group of staff, students, and supporters were in attendance. You can learn more about our Building Hope Campaign and school's expansion progress here.

First Day of School: We began the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 1st. The boys came back in person while the girls started their first week of virtual classes. The new year brought a new, positive energy to our halls.

Family Art Day: The AJC Parents' Association hosted the first family event of the school year back in November. Members of the school community joined our friends from Art for the Journey one Saturday morning and decorated the fence along the perimeter of the school.

Annual Christmas Celebration: We continued the beloved school tradition and produced a virtual Christmas program for our families and supporters to enjoy. Missed it? Use the link directly below to watch the full program at any time.
